Ashmolean Museum. This incredible ewer is guarded by a majestic greyhound.  🐾

This little pup is made from black oxidized silver and if you look closely you'll see that it even has its own tiny gold collar. Alongside the greyhound, the spout is formed as a triton playing a horn and around the base of the neck are detailed winged characters.

It dates to c.1805 and was made in Rome by goldsmith Giovacchino Belli.

You can see this intriguing object on display in our European Goldsmiths’ Work gallery on the second floor.

Pursuing the Pre-Raphaelites

William Morris
To mark the full moon tonight in the UK, this is The Hayfield by Ford Madox Brown, 1856. Painted on the Tenterden Estate, Hendon, Middlesex, the artist found this view during an evening walk on the 27th July, 1855. At that time hay was a very important crop for the farmers of Middlesex as they sold hay for the working horses in London.
