如果大學可以重讀一次

翁達瑞 / 美國大學教授

這次回台灣，我有另一個重要的任務，就是到中山大學授課，履行「榮譽訪問教授」的職務。

中山大學安排兩場大學部的演講，希望我對學生提出一些鼓勵與指引。老實說，我心裡很惶恐，因為學生的年紀比我小了四十幾歲。

我大學沒好好讀，確實有不少遺憾，多年來心中常自問：如果大學可以重讀一次，我會怎麼善用這四年的時間？

這就是我明天在中山大學的演講題目。

我的人生有不少波折：年過三十五才決定放棄企業界的工作，追求一個全新的職涯。浪跡北美學界三十年，暮然回首才發現走了不少冤枉路。

對大學的生活我有不少遺憾，例如未能認清人生志向、未能發展個人專長、沒有培養生活嗜好、未能結交知心朋友、也沒有學到攀談技巧。

對於大學的生活，我也有感到得意之處，例如養成良好的閱讀習慣，訓練流利的文字與口語表達能力，還有對社會的密切關懷。三者皆讓我終身受益。

人生不能重來，但可以吸取前人的經驗。當年沒人告訴我大學要怎麼讀。或許有，但我不信邪都忘記了。不論如何，明天我要轉換角色，與晚輩分享我的成長經驗。

據說這場活動已經報名額滿，讓我對明天的演講更加期待。
