 范景中師生40年來，幾乎翻譯貢布里希的所有作品/書。

由於與友人討論Warburg Institute【瓦爾堡學院：參考留言版之資料*】，得知范景中先生寫的＜貢布里希：中國文化令我深愛＞。這是篇「貢布里希作品集漢譯」的重要資料，范景中先生是翻譯團隊的重要人物，所以我覺得應該寫寫他。

杭州的中國美術學院據說很美。不過其出版社的Gombrich和范景中主編的，更是中國高水準。其實大陸應該給他翻譯獎勵。我不說翻譯的完美，不過這領域牽涉歐洲主要語言的文獻和文化之整體和細節，對於外國人頗為困難，所以要窮數代的團隊學習才能有小成。

「范景中 天津人，1951年出生。1981年浙江美術學院研究生畢業。1988年到德國海德堡大學任客座教授一年。現任中國美術學院、南京師範大學教授、博士生導師。出版有《圖像與觀念》等專著，發表論文近20篇。」
（HC：典型的近20年大陸培養出的美術學界的歷程。他的年紀與我差不多，我因而多少能了解他的能力和限制。）

「在我國（大陸），我們對於美術學的瞭解得益于1984—1989年間范景中主編的《美術譯叢》所做的大量工作。該刊84•3 期的"編後記"中說："關於美術史論方面，我們重點介紹了圖像志和圖像學。二十世紀西方在美術史論方面影響最大的學派有：以沃爾弗林為代表立足于美術形式自律論的學派，以德沃夏克為代表立足于藝術意志論的維也納學派，以帕諾夫斯基、貢布里希為代表立足于美術作品詮釋論的瓦爾堡學派"。這是我國對外開放後最早展示西方美術學研究全景圖的一篇文章。」（《美術譯叢》似乎為季刊，多為學術論文、雜誌翻譯，是他們磨鍊的刊物。那時沒有版權困擾。現在不知怎樣。）

「貢布里希（Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich， 1909 -2001），英國美學家、藝術史家。1909年生於奧地利的維也納，後移居英國併入英國籍。1936年起就職于倫敦大學瓦爾堡學院，並在牛津大學、劍橋大學等任客座教授。他曾榮獲史密斯文學獎、奧地利科學與藝術十字勳章、黑格爾大獎、法蘭西學院勳章，並獲得了牛津、劍橋、哈佛、倫敦等大學的名譽博士學位。其主要著作有：《藝術的故事》、《藝術與錯覺》、《理想與偶像》、《秩序感》、《藝術與科學》等。」

「……中文譯本至少有10種（《藝術的故事》（藝術發展史, 貢布裡希; 范景中, 天津人民美術出版社, 1988.；《藝術的故事》(英)貢布裡希著，三聯書店，1999年）、《藝術與錯覺》、《秩序感》、《圖像與眼睛》、《藝術與人文科學》、《象徵的圖像》、《文藝復興：西方藝術的偉大時代》、《木馬沉思錄》、《藝術與科學》、《理想與偶像》）已經問世，還有五種（《圖像與語詞》、《藝術與進步》、《保衛古典傳統的價值》、《藝術史與文學研究》、《瓦爾堡傳》）也在準備之中。」


這些東西幾乎都是范景中先生（主持）和他朋友翻譯的。他自己的文集則交廣東某家出版，文集參見范景中著《圖像與觀念》（嶺南美術出版社），多少可以了解其明志。

我們喧賓奪主了。
沒錯，Warburg傳。不過這共同體高手如雲，贡布里希先生只是一主要份子（他對於中華人物也頗慷慨，所以一些次要稿子也給范先生等人在中國發表。）此書（書名Warburg）之書評，認為平平（這是十幾年前的印象）。

我陷入兩難。我非真專家，當然，十來年前稍涉此領域。我的資料多在老家，手頭缺。不過這圖書館了不起的地方是：它藏書遠比專門領域之館少，不過精，更重要的是，主人及後來學者懂得images背後牽涉的種種學問，所以即使是marginal領域者，亦能綜合研究（這些學問都博大精深，然而他們有深厚的素養能進出之）。該圖書館又能與他人對話….。
