慧能大師
(約貞觀12—先天2∕西元638—713年)
中國唐代的僧人與思想家。佛教禪宗門派的第六位正統繼承者,世稱六祖慧能。為後世禪宗諸派的宗師。相傳聽道即悟,但不識字。著名佛偈:「菩提本無樹,明鏡亦非臺。本來無一物,何處惹塵埃。」
師示眾云:「善知識!我此法門,以定慧為本。大眾勿迷,言定慧別,定慧一體,不是二。定是慧體,慧是定用,……名雖有二,體本同一。此定慧法,亦復如是。」

師言:「汝等諦聽,後代迷人,若識眾生,即是佛性;若不識眾生,萬劫覓佛難逢。吾今教汝識自心眾生,見自心佛性。欲求見佛,但識眾生,只為眾生迷佛,非是佛迷眾生。……」

今天是香港中文大學第三任校長、人稱「光纖之父」高錕教授的88歲冥壽。
他在個人回憶錄A Time and A Tide中,從童年成長經歷、研究光纖通訊、家庭生活等各方面,細述他豐富的一生,亦有收錄他在中大多年的時光,文筆細膩動人。
感謝高教授用光纖聯繫世界,為現在的通訊發展奠下基礎。
Prof Charles Kuen Kao, generally regarded as “the father of fiber optics”, was born on this day in 1933.
His memoir A Time and A Tide chronicles the personal and scientific odyssey of one of the twentieth century's most influential scientists. It also covers Kao's time as a professor and Vice Chancellor of the CUHK until 2009.
Thank you Prof. Kao for changing the world with the discovery of fiber optics.
回憶台灣 清華、台大的"演講"

半年前,我錄Flaubert and George Sand時,注意到2017年的新書Flaubert in the Ruins of Paris: The Story of a Friendship, a Novel, and a Terrible Year (2017)
當時,粗心大意,沒注意Brooks與Brook的差別,忘掉查作者Peter Brooks ,以為他是來過台灣的戲劇導演Peter Brook (born 1925), theatre director。
今天買書贈友,才注意到作者是美國教授,不是英國人。
Peter Brooks (born 1938) is Sterling Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at Yale University and Andrew W. Mellon Scholar in the department of Comparative Literature and the Center for Human Values at Princeton University. He has been Professor in the Department of English and School of Law at the University of Virginia. Among his many accomplishments is the founding of the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale University. Brooks is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work cuts across French and English literature, law, and psychoanalysis. He was influenced by fellow Yale scholar, Paul de Man, to whom his book Reading for the Plot is dedicated.[1]
