あらすじ[編集]
裁ち屑はねずみ用の服を作るのがせいぜいという苦しい生活だったが、クリスマス前のある日（火曜日と思われる）、仕立て屋は市長が土曜日のクリスマスに行う婚礼のための上着の注文を受ける。
布の裁断を終えて家に帰った仕立て屋は、家の切り盛りをしている猫のシンプキンに最後の金で食料と、ボタンホールをかがるためのあな糸を買ってくるように言う。シンプキンが帰ってくるまでに仕立て屋はシンプキンが捕まえて食器の下に閉じ込めておいたねずみを逃がしてしまう。怒ったシンプキンは買ってきたあな糸を隠す。仕立て屋はショックの余り3日間にわたって病気で寝込んでしまう。
クリスマス・イブの深夜、シンプキンは仕立て屋の仕事場に行く。すると、中ではねずみ達が仕立て屋の代わりに上着を縫っていた。クリスマスの朝、目覚めた何も知らない仕立て屋はあな糸と反省したシンプキンを見る。急いで仕事場に行った仕立て屋が見たものは、ボタンホール一つを残して（あな糸が足りなかった）見事に出来上がっていた上着だった。その後もこの仕立て屋は素晴らしい上着を作り続けた。
Helen Beatrix Potter (/ˈbiːətrɪks/,[1] 28 July 1866 – 22 December 1943) was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist; she was best known for her children's books featuring animals, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Born into an upper-middle-class household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets and spent holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developing a love of landscape, flora and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted.
海倫·碧雅翠絲·波特（又譯比阿特麗克斯·波特，英語：Helen Beatrix Potter，1866年7月28日－1943年12月22日），英國作家、插畫家、自然科學家與保育運動人士。她以描述動物的童書作品著名，如《彼得兔的故事》等相關著作。

The Tailor of Gloucester
Gloucester (/ˈɡlɒstər/ (
listen) GLOS-tər) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west, 19 miles (31 km) east of Monmouth, and 17 miles (27 km) east of the border with Wales. Including suburban areas, Gloucester has a population of around 150,000. It is a port, linked via the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal to the Severn Estuary.
