我正要介紹林語堂談的笑話，可否拿來用。林等當初在中央日報介紹"很文人型:的笑話。換句話，笑話很多類。
無意中發現1983年三張讀者文摘的稿費通知。短短不到100字的笑話有1500元稿費，現在看起來還是很高。多年後我成為他們的譯者
《讀者文摘》小笑話三則
─1983舊作

一位美國數學系的研究生來台搜集中國古代數學發展的資料，朋友請我代為招待。他是首度來到東方，也沒有學過中文，可是竟在短短半小時內學會寫錯綜複雜的「張」字─而且還是草書。驚訝之餘，不免向這位天才請教。他說：
「這沒有什麼，我只是用一筆把三又四分之十三(3 13/4) 這個數字寫出來而已。」

美麗的女學生請一位國語流利的美國來華留學生為她取個洋名。
「請問你貴姓 ? 」
「呂，雙口呂。」
留學生沉思片刻，然後提筆寫了一個英文名字：Kissinger。

最近偶患小恙，到醫院去就診，無意中發現病歷表上「性別」一欄填的竟是一個「公」字。等醫生開完藥方後，我向護士小姐提出抗議：
「我又不是動物，怎麼可以寫成『公』的 ? 」
護士小姐瞄了病歷表一眼，甜甜一笑，說：
「你不是動物，我們寫的也不是中文。」
原來表上面填的是男性的國際符號「
」，卻用「公」字的筆順寫出來，妙的是陰陽絲毫不爽。
