《閱讀日本》第1單元：「文壇俠侶話日本」
北京大學陳平原、夏曉虹夫婦，是學界的志學俠侶，兩人學識淵博又感情彌篤。平原文筆流暢，擅寫人物風景，隱隱有文俠之風；曉虹文筆謹嚴，擅寫事件說理，切切有碩儒之氣，兩伉儷一同任教北京大學，於學術文章與隨想筆記，皆富文采，這回平原的《閱讀日本》，由曉虹來寫序，把握住平原的感受，再悠然以第三人稱寫出自己的觀察，夫婦同心堪稱學林佳侶。
《閱讀日本》是平原的學思筆記，情真意切，值得細讀。

有了Washday知識，後來讀到托爾斯泰祖父，將襯衫送到荷蘭洗，就見怪不怪了。

前幾天讀小說The Blue Flower，首章Washday就是男爵家的大洗衣日--家事大日子主角好友造訪.....，18世紀末的德國：襯衫只180件，所以要半年總清洗.....
前幾年有書說美國醫生不勤洗手的比率仍不低....白袍的清洗也類似。看來柯市長還是有話要說.....
