My goodness, there are so many familiar names which I thought have been buried permanently in the depth of my memory. I have to say that Tunghai gave all her students some mysterious bond and certain gentle quality which are not present elsewhere. I took a trip back Taiwan in late February and early and even visited Tunghai very briefly. I visited Ms. Rose and found out that we may share a similar kind of mental confinement resulting from a strange language condition. That is that we both have 2 second languages, Chinese and English. In my case I can not reach the level of efficiency I like for English and I lost the potency of my Chinese. I am a prisoner of "Between". She perfectly understood it too. I wish that one day, all my hard labor for managing 2 languages will pay off. Maybe my brain will stay plastic for longer. During the trip I felt a sense of melancholy lingering in Taiwan's state of being. It continues to be marginalized. It hurts the souls of 23 million people of this island country. What you guys doing in Tunghai hopefully can turn out to be a better direction, yes a lack of direction is perhaps what I am talking about. Wish you all well. Say hi to those dear friend for me.
