Georges Braque (/brɑːk, bræk/ BRA(H)K, French: [ʒɔʁʒ bʁak]; 13 May 1882 – 31 August 1963) was a major 20th-century French painter, collagist, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. His most important contributions to the history of art were in his alliance with Fauvism from 1905, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Braque's work between 1908 and 1912 is closely associated with that of his colleague Pablo Picasso. Their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years, yet the quiet nature of Braque was partially eclipsed by the fame and notoriety of Picasso.[1]

Les années 1930 voient apparaître les Nappes : Nappe rose (1933) et Nappe jaune, 1935 (114,3 × 144,8 cm), collection privée, qui reçoit en 1937 le premier prix de la Fondation Carnegie de PittsburghZ 21. Le peintre expérimente aussi les plâtres gravés, Heraklès, 1931 (187 × 105,8 cm), Fondation Maeght, les eaux fortes Théogonie d'Hésiode, 1932, ensemble de huit eaux fortes (53 × 38 cm), Musées de BelfortRM 11, commandées par Ambroise Vollard pour illustrer le livre homonyme et qui ne sera jamais publié, car Vollard meurt en 1939.
The 1930s saw the appearance of Tablecloths: Pink tablecloth (1933) and Yellow tablecloth, 1935 (114.3 × 144.8 cm), private collection, which in 1937 received the first prize from the Carnegie Foundation in PittsburghZ 21. The painter experiments also the engraved plasters, Heraklès, 1931 (187 × 105.8 cm), Fondation Maeght, etchings Théogonie d'Hésiode, 1932, set of eight etchings (53 × 38 cm), Museums of BelfortRM 11, commissioned by Ambroise Vollard to illustrate the homonymous book and which will never be published, because Vollard died in 1939.
