簡歷
李嗣涔先生，民國41年（1952）8月出生於臺灣省高雄縣，本校電機資訊學系畢業，美國史丹福大學電機博士，本校電機工程學系名譽教授。曾任本校電機工程學系系主任、教務長、第10任校長（94年6月～102年6月）、電機系特聘教授、國立大學校院協會理事長、東亞研究型大學協會會長、亞太大學交流協會（UMAP）理事長。

治校理念
強調「教育的卓越」、「研究的卓越」及「關懷社會」。提升通識教育中人文與科學課程的品質，加強營造校園人文藝術的活動與環境，提倡思想創新、追求真理及關懷生命。

Tohoku University the Only Candidate Currently on MEXT's "University for International Research Excellence" Shortlist

The Japanese government has announced that Tohoku University is currently the only remaining candidate still with a chance of being selected as a "University for International Research Excellence."

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) initiated the programme late last year to boost the research capabilities of Japanese universities. Successful applicants are expected to have access to the revenue from a 10 trillion JPY fund managed by the government, for enhanced education and research activities.

MEXT initially accepted applications from 10 universities. An expert committee then selected three, including Tohoku University, for an on-site visit and examination in July.

According to a press release issued by MEXT on September 1, Tohoku University will receive final accreditation only after detailed conditions are met during a phase of "accompanied support" by the ministry's Advisory Board.

"We are honored that our university's proposals have been recognized," said Tohoku University President Hideo Ohno at a media conference following the MEXT announcement. "We will continue to make every effort to achieve final accreditation, and work together towards the goal of becoming a world-leading research university."
