每個讀書人都可以講出利用報紙的故事：有些朋友用它練書法；我用諸如兩岸犇報等統戰報，塞進淋溼的求學......

我小學5年級到台北中山國小讀書，才知道各班訂國語日報，級任老師每天中午唸其"方向"小專欄，練習作文；初中讀新生報，知道有"古春風樓瑣記"，大概都看不懂。高中讀聯合報(小時，丘吉爾葬禮，印象深刻；中學時，也許是三島由紀夫的切腹自殺表演.......)，大一時，寢室合訂中國時報，當然鹿橋在連載其人子，一早讀之，簡直是幸福.......⋯⋯
