John Wilson talks to David Bowie in New York. This is an uncut version of the interview which was first broadcast on Radio 4’s Front Row in June 2002.

Sharing my old poem on my letter-opener!
From the Chinese perspective, this poem is a "singing of things" poem (咏物诗).
Kang-i Sun Chang Chan Cheow-Thia I think you will love seeing this letter-opener, which was a gift from my Swedish friend Lena Rydholm many years ago. Too bad you missed her talk last March when she gave a talk at Yale.

paper knife or letter opener is a knife-like object used to open envelopes or to slit uncut pages of books. An electric version is also available, which uses motors to slide the envelopes across ablade, and is also able to handle increased amounts of envelopes, but the blade can slice into the contents of the envelope and damage them.
