匆匆10幾天過去，現在才將張華先生回答的"諫友 "。我一直沒去查古書。
不過，我認為更好的說法可能是Shewhart 說的，我將它弄成今天的 signature 之 motto：Thanks for the helpful criticisms and stimulating questions in private conferences.
朋友之間，「諫」，這東西，通常很難啟口。 譬如說 ，前幾天你寫的「楊受刑人 (II) 」，最後有一段很精彩。不過，我認為它的標點符號用得很不理想

我今天發現，對於有「譯業」的，可以用譯文祝他"退修"：

昨天 再讀W. Edwards Deming 的 {產官學一體適用的新經濟學} (The New Economics for Industry, Government, Education - 2nd Edition)
這本書的中文翻譯已出版十年了
當然它的翻譯和編輯大小毛病不少
不過讀者都能了解大義
記得當年{亞洲周刊}有篇香港寫的書介 感謝Deming.....
翻譯者戴久永教授在"導讀"中就稱我為
"品質歷史考古學家" (第三頁)
我應該寫一下那些只有我注意到的問題
譬如說 在 Shewhart and Control Charts 一章中
談到他(W. E. D.)有幸在1927年認識 Shewhart.....
不過 他在1939年為 Shewhart的書寫 Foreword 時
是說
'...it was he who introduced me some of the modern statistical literature back in 1928.'
換句話說說 究竟是1927或1928 或都說得通
Wikipedia 的Walter A. Shewhart 條 說他逝世於某村
與 Deming說的 Mountain Lakes 不同 表示搬過家
現在我們可以上網知道Mountain Lakes 人口才四千多
戴老師將這對朋友的情誼說 ".....他家中度過許多夜晚" (p.192}
英文是evenings
好像不同....這些都是細微處 寫下供後世人參考

我或許應該翻譯 “With Recollections and Reflections by Robert K. Merton” (1988) in The History of Science and the New Humanism (1962) by George Sarton ( 這位著名的科技史家是趙元任先生的老師—趙先生的早期留美回憶錄中提到，Sarton在哈佛大學草創時的授課情形。
