A former Japanese military base is now home to the largest performing-arts center in the world under a single roof. Opened in October 2018, the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts spans 25 acres in the south of Taiwan. The compound, designed by the Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo, features a roof resembling a canopy inspired by the banyan trees commonly found in the region, which dips to the ground to form the base of an outdoor theater for up to 20,000. Inside, the four other performance venues have already seen world-class acts, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra. —Hillary Leung

"Thérèse Raquin" is Emile Zola's novel that revolves around adultery and murder. This novel tells the story of a young woman who was unhappily married to her first cousin living with her overbearing aunt.
Zola describes this piece as the "study temperaments and not characters." Because of this novel, the author was considered as an example of naturalism.
His novel was later adapted as a play in 1873, which he also wrote. The story has since been made into films, mini-series⋯⋯

在中國宣布對美國750億美元商品加征關稅之後，美國總統特朗普8月23日呼籲美國公司關閉其在華業務。路透社表示，華盛頓實際上不能強迫在華的美國企業離開中國，特朗普在聲明中也沒有詳細說明如何執行他的決策。特朗普還在推文中寫道：了不起的美國企業要開始設想替代辦法，包括把企業轉回美國，在美國本土製造其產品。特朗普還表示，坦率地說，我們不需要中國，沒有它我們會更好。特朗普說，我今天下午(23日)會回應中國的關稅措施。另據最新消息，美國總統特朗普宣布，10月1日起，2500億美元中國輸美商品的稅收從此前的25%升至30％。另外，從9月1日起，3000億美元的中國輸美商品稅率將為15％，而不是10％。

馬斯克曾公開表示，新加坡推廣電動車速度非常難，政府甚至表現出對電動車發展不支持的態度，至少也算不積極。新加坡環境與水資源部長 Masagos Zulkifli 對馬斯克的指責明確回應，表示緩解氣候變暖，更有效的方式是使用公共交通工具，而不是使用電動車，馬斯克提倡的生活方式新加坡並不感興趣，只關注真正能解決氣候問題的方案。
由於新加坡四面環海，一直積極應付全球氣候變暖、海平面上升帶來的威脅。新加坡總理李顯龍曾明確表示，為應付全球氣候變暖和海平面上升，將投資超過 1,000 億美元於環保。新加坡國土面積小，人口約 600 萬，積極發展以火車和公車為主的公共交通體系，已涵蓋大部分地區，預期到 2040 年新加坡所有通勤路線都不會超過 45 分鐘。
新加坡對推廣電動車的態度比較謹慎，因電動車普及需要大量充電站，目前建設完善的充電站體系要面對巨大的挑戰：新加坡 85% 人口住在政府建設的高密度住宅區，找一個停車位都很困難，如果要配置充電站，顯然沒有合適的解決方案。Masagos Zulkifli 透露新加坡政府的車輛管理非常有效，車輛行駛許可以 10 年為期，可為推動電動車的政策，如果任何國家能做到燃油車 100% 換成電動車，那將是新加坡，但目前電動車的動力來源鋰電池，製造過程同樣有碳排放問題，以氫氣為燃料的車輛可能是更長遠的方案。
