https://goo.su/iMg0EKN

I’m Rachel Mihalko Kanter, Project Archivist at the Yale University Art Gallery. I first joined the Gallery as part of the Registrar’s Office from 2014-2017, where I worked on the institutional archives with our inaugural archivist, Elise Kenney, and have been back since September 2023.

We have curatorial archives spanning all the departments across the Gallery, so one of the more exciting parts of my job is that I get to spend time with nearly everyone here to learn about what’s in the collections. The institutional archives contain records as early as the 19th century that document the history of the Gallery from exhibition files to building floorplans and photographs over the years. My project is to establish a system which will enhance accessibility to the Gallery’s rich archival holdings and encourage research for students, faculty, and outside scholars.

I have a BA in Art History from Ohio State University and an MLIS from Rutgers University. I’ve been at Yale for a decade, where I’ve had the opportunities to work at Haas Arts Library, Manuscripts and Archives, and Lewis Walpole Library. I’m originally from Cleveland but have made New Haven home and embraced the ocean almost as much as Lake Erie.
